The rise in popularity of Affiliate marketing to increase web site traffic and earn money online has given many people a chance to work at home and make a living on the internet. Many affiliate marketing programs are free to join, easy to implement, and offer the ability to receive a monthly income through commissions. But as in all opportunities there are common mistakes made by affiliate marketers. These mistakes can often cost someone a great deal of money or a cut in their monthly commissions. I will cover in this post a few of the mistakes often made.

The most common mistake made by IM people is choosing the wrong affiliate program. Sometimes we have our eye on making the quick money as fast as we can and rush into promoting a product just because it is popular right now. Instead of trying to choose the hot product it would be best to promote something that you the marketer are interested in. Look for products that will make you a good profit in the long run. Do your research and learn as much as you can about the product before spending your time and energy promoting it.

Another common mistake made is joining too many affiliate programs. As stated in the intro, affiliate programs are easy to join and many people tend to think the more pots they have their hand in, the more they will profit. Affiliate marketing is a time consuming endeavor and having too many programs going at one time will not let you devote adequate time needed for the good programs. Look for a program that pays high commissions rather than a bunch of programs that pay small commissions and you will have more time to devote to the one program thus making it more productive.

The last common mistake made by affiliate marketers is not buying the affiliate product you are promoting. You job as a product’s affiliate is to promote a product or service in a fashion that convinces the customer to try it. It is very hard to do effectively do that if you have not tried it out. Would you recommend a product to family or friends without trying it? Create a want in your customers for what you are selling and you can convince them to buy. Very hard to do if you haven’t tried the product.

Take a look at these mistakes and make sure you are not sabotaging your business, yourself, and your customers. These mistakes could cost you quite a bit in commission and harm your reputation as an affiliate marketer.
