Pay Per Click or PPC Marketing accounts for billions of dollars a year according to leading financial publications. It is considered one of the most cost effective of all the ways for targeted website traffic.

The way that PPC marketing works is that the search in question will create a listing and rate that listing based on bid amounts that webmasters will pay to get higher ranking for a keyword or keyword phrase. Whoever bids the highest for a certain keyword or phrase will have their site ranked first and on down the line for the second and third highest bidders until all bidders are listed.

The advertiser then pays sites when someone clicks on their ad and hopefully makes a purchase. Unlike affiliate marketing the site owner gets paid for the click and it doesn’t matter if a customer buys or not.
Of course if you are trying to increase web site traffic by bidding on keywords on you don’t want ads put on just any site. You want your ads on sites within your niche. The same goes for the person displaying your ad. If the ad doesn’t relate to their niche no one will click on the ads and they won’t get their PPC commission. That is what the search engine is responsible for and why they make a profit.
